BonaResponds Local Spring Weekend

In the spirit of past local service days that we have we will be working with many different groups and people in need from the surrounding area.

April 19-20, 2008   This is the week before Spring Weekend at Bonaventure.  Spring weekend's softball tournament is great fun and it is great for those playing, but let's help others first and then you will enjoy the softball even more!

Details to be announced soon!  Tentative:
Work 10-4:00 each day.  Music, food, maybe even a bonfire?, camping?  Stay tuned!  HAve other ideas?  Let us know!

We need many volunteers!  So if you have friends, scout groups, teams,  or any other group and would like to volunteer, just let us know!   Of course you can also come by yourself and meet new friends!

The following letter went out to local charities.  Feel free to forward it to others.

I am writing because we have either worked with you in the past or thought your organization might want to either provide volunteers or have some jobs that need to be done.  Please feel free to pass this on to others.  It must be noted that this is above and beyond any other projects your group may be doing with other Bonaventure groups.

On Saturday April 19 and Sunday April 20, 2008 BonaResponds is holding its first Spring Service Weekend.  In the past we have has single day events, but due to demand for more jobs and the desire to get more volunteers an opportunity to work, we have added an extra day.

The details of the day are still being worked out, but will have volunteers working at multiple sites across the area.  We expect this to be our largest local service day.  (For perspective last fall we had about 110 volunteers at 9 sites during a similar event.)
The volunteers will meet on campus with a respresentative from the sites we are helping, then after a brief description of each job, we will break into smaller work groups that will spread out across the region where they will do everything from picking up trash, to making trails, to painting, to landscaping, and even possibly putting up drywall.
We can plant trees, pick up trash, paint fences, and much more.  Ideally the volunteers can see the impact of their work so concrete jobs are often more popular than inventory etc.

We also welcome (indeed need ;) ) as many volunteers as possible.  So Scout groups, Church groups, or just volunteers are welcomed with open arms!

For planning purposes (we need to know how many sites to have), the earlier we know the better we will be able to serve you.
Please email me at BonaResponds@sbu.edu  if you have other questions or would like to participate.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you.
